Dear Lace
In just 14 days, California voters will decide whether Jessica's Law -- tough sex offender legislation to protect our children from dangerous sexual predators -- becomes California law. Fueled by your tremendous support, COPS has been traveling across California with Jessica's father, Mark Lunsford, on a bipartisan campaign swing urging citizens to vote YES on Proposition 83, "[glow=red,2,300]Jessica's Law".[/glow]
As Election Day nears, we are excited to report that our voter education drive is building critical momentum. Many respected leaders are standing with COPS in support of Jessica's Law.
[glow=red,2,300]On Monday, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger held an event with law enforcement in support of Jessica's Law. John Walsh from "America's Most Wanted" announced his endorsement there.[/glow]
On Tuesday, we held a press conference and fundraiser at the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS) headquarters along with former Governor Jerry Brown and State Senator Debra Bowen.
On Wednesday, the sponsors of the California Initiative, Senator George Runner and Assemblywoman Sharon Runner joined Mark Lunsford and Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) at a Sacramento fundraiser. What a sight -- bikers and law enforcement joining together to help protect our kids!

Listen as Mark describes the ordeal his family endured after a registered sex offender with outstanding warrants for his arrest abducted Jessica, raped her, and buried her alive just 150 yards from the home where she had lived with her father and grandparents.
Mark says, "(if we are able to pass Jessica's Law) I don't get my daughter back, but you get to keep yours." It will tear at your heart to hear Mark's anguish at the loss of his daughter, but it will also encourage you to get involved in support of Jessica's Law.
It is critical that we pass Jessica's Law in California. Each year, millions of children fall prey to sexual predators. Jessica's Law will protect our children from these dangerous criminals by:
Ensuring that all child molesters who molest children under the age of 14 are put into a prison with a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years or 25 years to life.
Eliminating all "good-time" credits for sex offenders ensuring that these sex offenders are required to serve their entire sentence and will not be released for good behavior.
Electronically monitoring convicted sex offenders for life, if they are ever released from prison, through GPS tracking.
Creating a 2,000-foot "predator-free" zone around schools and parks to prevent sex offenders from living near where our children learn and play.
[glow=red,2,300]A victory in California will send a powerful message to every state in the nation that says “Every state needs Jessica's Law”.[/glow]
